FLOOD HAVOC IN ASSAM
THE FLOOD HAVOC IN ASSAM
The flood in Assam has turn into a regular devastation in Assam. It has been occurring in Assam for decades. The state of Assam is frequently ravaged by the fury of mighty Brahmaputra river and its tributaries causing untold human misery and bring indescribable destruction to nature and its beauty.
There are several factors responsible for the occurrence of
flood in Assam.
1.Assam lies in the heart of monsoon belt and so it receives
abundance of rainfall.
2. Numerous tributaries of Brahmaputra river such as
:Subansiri, Manas, ,Kopili, Dhansiri,Bhogdoi etc. gets flooded and overflow
their banks flooding the vast plain of the state.
3. The presence of the long range of mountains on its
northern and eastern borders which compels the water to flow down into the vast
plains on which thousands of villages submerged under it.
The havoc of flood in Assam is beyond description.
People lost theirs
home, cattles and valuable goods are washed away, crops gets damaged. Many
people died of starvation and hunger . We don't know when will we finally get
ourselves free from the problem of flood . The floods in Assam have wrecked
havoc across the state with death of many creatures. Not only the human life,
but the wildlife has also been badly affected with over 540 animals, including
Rhinos, perishing in the world-famed Kaziranga National Park.
Hog deer are the worst hit with 465 of them succumbing to
the flood waters which have inundated nearly 80 percent of the Park's area.
Along with these , other casualties include 10 swamp deer, 28 wild boars, five porcupine, 16 sambars and two each of python, wild buffalo and hog badgers in the last year flood.
No doubt, the Government, has taken several flood control
measures to lessen the menace and effect of flood in the state. Immediate flood
relief measures include setting up of relief camps, free distribution of
food, clothes and
medicines, cash compensation for the lost property etc. The chief flood control
measures have been the construction of embankments along the banks of the
rivers in the affected areas.
Every individuals should try to help the people who are a
victim to the flood havoc caused in our state each and every year.
It’s high time for us to take some steps forward for the
development of the flood victim.
